For the life of me, I could never figure out where to buy this thing in Manila. I know you can buy it in wet markets, but I have never found any.
Here, in the US, where you can buy everything you wished for, it is easily available especially since this is an ingredient in many Latin American countries.
All I really wanted was binatog. But I needed to make dinner and I wanted to make use of hominy. I found what is a pleasantly friendly dish and used the recipe as a guide. Stew or soup. It was just a typical meat stew with meat, veggies, a little of lime, then hominy.
The flavors were very typical Mexican. But really, I was just happy to find a recipe using hominy (outside of binatog) that I like. 🙂
