We were invited by some friends of Matt’s because it was their birthday to this place in Chicago. We are always game for trying new stuff, and meet new people, so this was a great idea for us. We got there, and we were briefed by the person who let us in that there is a 40 minute wait in line. Luckily, we immediately saw some friends already in line and we snuck in the line. We ended up with a 15minute wait instead 🙂
The place looked like a warehouse turned into a pub/bbq place. In the center was the bar, the corner was the meat place where you get food, then you have heavy benches and tables for sitting. The atmosphere was a place to relax, eat, and drink. The menu was quite simple too. You have about 5 or 6 meat options, same for the sides. Just choose and order whatever you like. They slice and pack it as your order it. Then you go to the condiment area and choose spicy or regular barbecue sauce. They also serve the meat with breads even if you don’t do the sandwich option.
We ordered some brisket, along with a link. We got sides: corn, potato salad, and macaroni salad. The food was good but the meats I found generally salty (I miss rice during moments like these sometimes) and the free bread helped in that area. Philip, Matt’s friend, shared with us some of the pork belly and I really love that. I regret not ordering that but with a slice of the belly and what we ordered, we have more than enough food.
I would have drank here if it didn’t make me feel guilty to drink. Cocktails are 3 to 4 times the price in Manila. I feel a little bit crazy ordering it. I am better off mixing my favorite cocktails at home!
I would come back here, for the pork belly specifically. 🙂
