I have made butter chicken before. and the funny thing is my last attempt doesn’t look like anything like the real butter chicken. I added tons of vegetables too, to make it healthy I am sure. But then I barely recall what the flavor was, since it was years ago. But the one I made now is more authentic for sure. Well, except for the missing garam masala.
Garam masala is a curry mix of some sort. I used to have a bottle of it at home, but then, I ran out. I was going to use turmeric to get that hint of curry in my dish, but I also ran out. And yeah, I have a lot of things missing from my pantry apparently.
But with my more than enough real cream, and always available canned tomatoes in the pantry, I set up for some yummy Butter Chicken.
I followed most of the instructions (I know, I know, I never do, like now) but I really didn’t have time to marinate the chicken like the recipe instructed. 😦 So I just did as best as I could. I added a bit of lemon to the chicken to bring in the marination part/flavor in the mix. But that was it. So i basically went ahead to the sauteing part, and followed from there as best as I could.
This was as simple a recipe could be. And the lack of garam masala made it a milder dish though butter chicken is already considered a very mild curry. 🙂 But yay to authentic (kinda) recipes. 🙂
