I lived in the Philippines all my life. And though we have abundant tropical fruits, I am as curious for those seasonal fruits in other places that we don’t have here. My last trip to the US, I ended buying all kinds of berries I saw in the supermarket. There were blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and I honestly don’t remember the others. Some were sour, but all were quite interesting, really.
The only berry we have here is strawberry and it’s not abundant everywhere, just in places where the weather is cooler all year round, in Baguio, one of those places. Usually, we would find some puny ones in the supermarket. Or imported ones that are huge. But mom went strawberry picking with her friends and brought home 2 kilos of the nicest local strawberries that I have seen ever! They were huge, sweet, and even after 2 days in the car, they were still in very good condition. I didn’t waste any time sweetening some cream with sugar, and dipping the strawberry in them. Really the best.
i ate about 10 huge ones every time I sat down to eat some of them and the two kilos were quickly gone in no time. I really would like to go to an open market in another country soon. I know I would enjoy it as much as i do going around here. And with the mix of new stuff I don’t know about, it will be a blast!
