I have talked to a friend before how ice cream locally is hardly regulated and most should be called “Mallorine”. It turned me off local ice cream a lot. (Mallorine is different due to the percentage of oil in the mix.)
I was in the local supermarket the other time and decided to look up ingredients of the cheese products in the chilled area. I was surprised that a lot of the cheese products list oil as either number one or two ingredient, more than milk solids/products/etc! Gaaaaad. It was in the first cheese block that I grabbed and continued on grabbing the next few ones, taking pictures just to show what is really in the cheese we buy…
It wasn’t so bad. Some of the cheeses had more milk stuff than anything else. Or water. But it is quite enlightening that beyond the flavor, you really do have to read the ingredient list. You really do.
I am not here to damage any brands or recommend any. After all, more than the ingredients, I think that Filipino are price and taste sensitive first more than health conscious. But this would be some kind of enlightenment to those who read, or are willing to read labels. 🙂
