Puno’s Ice Cream

Kuya Dino, my brother-in-law, just came from Nueva Ecija. And sealed tight in the trunk of his car was an old-fashioned cooler with a huge 3.8L of ice cream. It is a specialty from Nueva Ecija(a province three hours north of Manila), called Puno’s. The flavor was macapuno and cashew. Yum.

I’m not sure if the Puno refers to the macapuno, which could have been their basic flavor or item back then 🙂 Or refers to its english equivalent of “tree” or “full”. I’ll stick to my initial assumption. 🙂

Looks plain, doesn it? No sign of chunkiness :)

The flavor was simple, it was soft, like ice cream should be, and not rock hard. It was good, but a bit lacking in the chewiness department. I was expecting it more to be a plain ice cream with surprise finds, rather than an ice cream with macapuno and cashew in it. 🙂 But hey, even for other ice creams, I really prefer the super chunky ones 🙂
